I went with the F7C-S Hornet Ghost myself.
I had originally planned just to get the Arena Commander starter pack which is just the basic package (Aurora) but with Arena Commander bundled with it, then make use of this free time with the other flyable ships to see if I fancied upgrading to one of those instead. The cheapest option to get in there basically. I decided against that though. Instead I went with the ship I kept coming back to look at the most and that was the Ghost. Figured that since the Aurora doesn't really appeal to me to begin with (and I'm not too fond of the look either if I'm totally honest), that I'd be buying something above that anyway so could always smelt the Ghost back into store credit and buy something else instead if I really wanted, leaving any possible difference (in money) left in my account for future spending :)

[Edit: Just melted my Ghost and manually upgraded to a Super Hornet during the anniversary sale!]
[Edit - 18/2/15: And erm.. bought an M50.. lol]

Not bought any yet, much to BD's chagrin ;)

I'll probably just buy the basic one and upgrade in the game itself without sinking too much money into it. I'll update when I do this :)

A nice variety of ships we have!
Love the look of the Avenger & Cutlass (blue especially). Hopefully won't be too long before those become available in Arena Commander for you guys :D

Updated. I melted a couple of ships and got an Anvil Carrack.

Currently my fleet consists of...

Constellation Phoenix
Freelancer MAX
325A
315P
350R
Aurora LX
Aurora LN
Cutlass Blue
Avenger
F7C-M Super Hornet
M50
Carrack
Mustang Delta(Christmas present to myself)

I'm already addicted to this game and its not even out yet.

Wow, damn nice dude. That's one seriously impressive list!
I know you won't have gotten to fly all of those just yet but do you have a firm favourite? :)

What ships do I own, none right now :(

However, next month I am looking to pick up a 300i or 325a. An F7C-M hornet would be nice and so would a Cutlass, but I don't have the money for that, so I'll just have to get them in game :D

Or maybe I could just break into Chaos' hanger and steal his ;D

That's an amazing collection!

I just hope I'll get the hang of flying a ship, can't even imagine shooting something while flying, let alone dog-fighting someone

Practice makes perfect ;)
I'd still get eaten alive against another player with the same ship as me but I know I have improved against the AI already, and this is not the kinda game I usually play. Don't know if you're using a keyboard, gamepad or joystick/HOTAS but I've found my wired 360 pad to be much easier to than the keyboard. I feel I can keep control of and maneuver the ship a lot better with that personally. Worth giving a try if you've been using the keyboard. - I'll get a HOTAS setup next year I think (assuming everyone here is still interested) but the gamepad will do nicely for now.

Controls are still proper <censored> insofar as being able to pick up the game and play it.

Currently, you have to mess with your own hardware sensitivity settings, then adjust the game's response to them through .xml's or whatever, I don't even know if you actually can do it yet.

This makes input responses weird and unwieldly. You CAN get used to them, and play the game proper, but the onus is thus on you to adjust, instead of being able to adjust the game to respond to how you want it to respond. Which is generally what you would expect from a game like this.

Think of... like an FPS, where you can't adjust mouse acceleration, and the developer enabled it by default and set a crazy value.

Ability to adjust this stuff is coming pretty soon tho in the upcoming patches.

I hate to say it I kind of followed the Chaos route but not to the same extreme

F7C-M Super Hornet
Freelancer (basic)
Cutlass (Blue)
Constellation (Andromeda)
Redeemer (TNGS)

What started off as an original kickstarter pledge for the Colonel Package in the early days has kind of snow balled.

At the moment using a non HOTAS joystick, the gimballed / turret weapons on the Hornet are driving me insane.
Vanduul Swarm takes me forever, although I am finding flying with various damage states interesting.

By the way, with those huge collections of ships, who were you guys planning on playing the game with?

I plan on playing with everyone here naturally. I'm also going to have multiple characters, i can never play just one. And hired NPC's to fly some too.

Have you guys set an Organisation up yet?

I'm currently playing some other games with Righteous Indignation at the moment, so I set a Star Citizen one up under that name.
Although if there isn't enough uptake I will need a group to play with.

Currently I'm predisposed to a PMC type of organisation.

As you pointed out the Redeemer is definitely a player organisation type of bird.

As time permits, I was planning on playing with everyone :thumb:
Previously purchased and gifted a couple of Next Generation Aurora pledges to my brother (JonisRahl) & 15 year old Nephew,
To help entice them to pop their heads out of WoW for 10 mins and play with us as well ;D
By the way, not only does the original guildmaster of SSX WoW (US) JonisRahl continue to lead the charge in WoW, but he still plays it like 16-20 hours a week...
So if anyone feels like exploring the new expac, I am sure he would help explain all the crazy new changes (eg. Gear shifts with specs now, so no more grinding multiple sets anymore).

My brother and nephew were the main reason I originally snagged the Rear Admiral pledge.
Back then I didn't know who all would be interested in SC and figured if all else fails, the 3 of us could tear up the galaxy in an Constellation together.
Now though, they sound pretty stoked on playing SC and know more about it then I do

As far as organizations goes, it appears the organizations "types" are for role playing purposes, so PMC is fine with me (the premiss even sounds kewl).
What is an Archetype?

An organization is basically what its members and administrators want it to be. We have set up 5 basic archetypes for organizations, but they are exclusively role-play elements, and have no incidence whatsoever on the system, or the future game.

Corporation – a for-profit business entity. A corporation is a great choice for everything from shipping flo-pets to Goss II to organizing a hostile takeover of Origin Jumpworks.

PMC (Private Military Company) – For organizations with a taste for combat. Focuses for PMCs include escorting cargo runs, hunting for pirates or helping the UEE take on the Vanduul.

Faith – Organizations that have come together for a single cause or under a single banner. This could be rebels fighting for Terran independence… or the devout followers of the LAMP!

Syndicate – Common interest groups for those who operate on the edges (or outside) of the law. There’s safety in numbers when you’re moving contraband through Spider or preying on hapless cargo ships.

Organization – Want to make your own way without any previous association? Feel free to keep with the default nondescript type!

Again the Archetype does not have any impact on how the Organization works as an entity.

PMC sounds the most appealing to me :)

Also nope, we don't have an Organisation set up yet, Ash. There's a good few of us who are interested in the game though, many of whom have already pledged or will be doing very soon.
Kahn will probably depend on if he has upgraded (I assume), even though he backed it, and QD isn't around very often and may have already made plans to play with some other buddies of his (not sure, but would be great to have him) but even if you knock a couple people off that list we should have a nice amount for a new group, and that's if nobody else here decides to jump in as well. I'm also hoping to entice my brother in with us nearer the time but we shall see on that hehe :)

Don't you guys think we're more of a "Faith" based group?

Ideals and all? I could be wrong.

No, I would probably agree. I like the sound of PMC personally but thinking about it, Faith could offer more freedom without being boring like Organization. Since for us we'd obviously come together under the Shattered Star banner first and foremost rather than for a "single cause". So Faith could probably offer the RP of PMC too if some of us wanted, just allowing a little more freedom to others who fancy RPing something a bit different I guess.
Definitely not Syndicate that's for sure heh.

So I finally bought. I'm a 300i.

I'll look into the organisation types later today :)

Have had a 325a sitting in the hanger for a while. May take it out and test fly it today. If the SSX goes PMC I'll hold it, otherwise I maaayyyyy melt it down for a cutlass.
