For anyone not watching this yet (I know a few of us are), this may be one worth turning your head to. It's a very dark, gritty show that pulls no punches in the tale it wants to tell.

It's based around seven teenagers who share a cell at a reformatory for young criminals in 1955 (which basically amounts to a prison where brutal treatment is routinely dealt out). So far the tale is focusing on exploring what the teenagers did, seperately, to end up in prison and how/why it has affected their characters - though from the series description it seems that it will also branch out into their lives after their release at a later point.

Entertaining, because it is different and is not afraid of being itself - dark and brutal. Certainly one I would say is worth a look.

This looks interesting, although I'm having a hard time deciding whether it is really as dark and psychological as you say, or if you are just being a little sissy.

This was my first thought when talking to Anny about it, used to watch that as a kid :p

Seriously though, I've been watching it as well (it's also the first anime show I've watched as it airs) and so far I've been enjoying it.
I'm still relatively new to anime but I'd describe it as being quite dark, brutal & real with an art style which has a gritty feel to it and the music quite heavy to match, all of which go perfectly together.
There may end up being some cheerful, uplifting moments later on, I dunno, but atm "Rainbow" doesn't create a good picture of how it really is.

Looking forward to the next installment :)

Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.
