Ok.. so they made it look like Alto bought the big one.. but... this wouldn't be an anime if he didn't come back in SOME fashion. Though I think it would be hella awesome if they did kill him off to break a trend of that kind of thing in Anime.

Maybe it was because I was running on sleep deprivation, but I didn't get all that excited with the last episode. Lots of pretty colors and expensive animation... But after the epic "episode 14" it's like I've seen it over and over by then.

Overall, still a great explosive ending, plot wise it seemed very thin. I also couldn't develop any character attachment for this series... Maybe it's cause everyone was just too damn good looking :D

Yeah, 7, 14 and this episode are like the best episodes of the series. But man this episode frakin ROCKED!! I loved the mix of several songs into one big one. And the fact that Alto used Michel's gun to deliver the killing blow was just all kinds of awesome. That crazy *$#! needed to die something fierce.

OOH! One of my favorite parts is when Canaria broke out her Monster and totally whopped ass on one leg! Was TOTALLY AWESOME!!! Anytime the Monster gets some love I am all over it. See I loved the Monster Destroids from the original Macross and the fact that the VF-X 2 game gave it some serious love and the fact that they brought that design here and used it thoroughly, well I gushed for joy.

Another one of my favorite parts was the pimp slap from Ranka to Sheryl. Come on now.. we were all thinkin about doin that...

Klan inherited Michel's Valk which was totally cool. And Luca unlocked the inhibitors on his drones which was nice that they gave Macross Plus a nod there.

All in all a stellar performance.

Oh, so that's what that was. I recently was Macross Plus and didn't make the connection between the AI fighters and the old OVA.

I wonder how much that episode took to make. I hear using CG assisting, those HD panties racked up some heavy costs.

Just finished watching this, and to summarise my reaction from IRC - this series was epic.

The finale in particular was amazing, and most definately up there with the best stuff I've watched from any series. The medley was awesome when it kicked in, and it was filled with twists and turns that were all fantastically well done.
In particular, not in a million years had I forseen the Battle Galaxy being in as deep as it was - I had read the Galaxy as simply a pawn used by Grace just like everything else.
Firmly puts Macross onto my "Must Watch" list if and when a new series comes out. I'll probably spend the rest of the day rewatching the last two episodes a few more times

And yes, HD runaway panties ftw ;)

After an awfully long wait for a decent translation to emerge, I just finished watching the first Macross Frontier movie.

For those who haven't seen it, it's mostly a retelling of the series in order to set up for a 'continuation/divergence' in the second movie, but this doesn't mean that if you've watched the series you shouldn't bother with it - the movie does diverge in relatively large ways in various parts. More so than I was expecting in fact.

I think, all things considered, that I prefer the series to the movie - mainly because I don't feel two hours was long enough for it, as the start in particular felt somewhat rushed due to the fact that it just didn't have five episodes available to spend on it like the series did. But without a doubt the movie is still a perfect ten, and most certainly ranks only slightly behind the series as one of the best pieces of anime I've watched.

For those who haven't watched Frontier yet, the movie might be a good introduction if you aren't sure if you would enjoy the series. It's divergent enough to ensure that watching it won't automatically mean you shouldn't bother watching the series, and it certainly gives you a large taste of what the show is about. But ultimately whether you watch the movie first or the series, I cannot recommend this franchise highly enough.

This is the only show I've watched that's even come near to challenging Geass for the title of 'best show ever'. In ways it even beats it out, and watching this movie makes me want to think long and hard about whether this franchise does in fact seize that crown or remains astonishingly close to doing so - and those of you who know how much I revere Geass will know how highly that means I think of it.

Essentially, it's must watch. Certainly worth the time investment.
