If you are only going to PvE, make anything you desire m8, its all about having fun with what you like to play.
If you wish to PvP at some point, I would suggest unlocking as many skills as possible from all classes. You can use any unlocked skills in PvP. You unlock skills from PvE or PvP and they all are permanently saved once unlocked

Its really easy to unlock skills.
Just playing the game in PvE normally you will have more then half the skills of that class unlocked.
You can also PvP at anytime to unlock skills. Anytime you defeat an opponent or win a match you recieve Faction. You can trade that faction in for skills.

I posted this earlier for someone else starting, but it is hard to find waaaay down in another post so will bring it here for you:
Hope it helps ya m8Padishar wrote:Starting a PvE char is the best thing to do right off the bat even if you plan on being a PvP hound. Simply because you can learn to play, plus you unlock skills faster 'initially' in PvE.
Unlock? you might ask....
The game works like this m8. The majority of the PvE side of the game is like Diablo/DiabloII EXCEPT all towns are full of live people. When you leave town you either go solo, with a party of NPC, with a party of real people or a mix of players and NPC's (and pets).
When you start the game as a PvE char you actually start in the intro or prequel to the game. This intro is called presearing because it is before the world is seared by the Charr and before the great war with them has begun. So the land is covered is lush green fields and the sun is shining birds are singing, etc etc.....
Other then unlocking skills, doing quests, exploring... you don't really have to worry about best armor, weps, storage, ascending, etc. until you leave the intro. When you do goto leave, then and only then is your only 'forced' PvP battle. Its just a taste, doesn't matter if you win or lose. The game refers to it as bootcamp. You have 1 timed quick 4 vs 4 battle (technically you could just stand there and lose if you like it really doesn't matter).
Ok Pad, you still havn't aswered the unlock question..... So what is unlocking things? As you quest throughout the PvE portion of GuildWars, every special weapon, rune and skill you obtain for your character unlocks that skill permanently for PvP chars. So anytime you make a PvP character, that character will automatically be able to use it.
Being successful at PvP awards you faction points. You can use these points to unlock skills and items also, but it can be somewhat slow to get lots of faction till you understand the game a little more.
At first, in PvE, skills and skill quests come quickly so it almost bahooves you to play at least a little PvE first. Later when you are comfortable playing and skills are coming alot slower or you are simply trying to get those rare elites, you can sometimes PvP to get them unlocked faster.
PvP has many forms in GW's:
Random Arena's - there are various 4 vs 4 lvl restricted random arena's that let you fight for faction. No penaties for losing, so this is your best place to start learning to pvp.
Hall of Heroes(HoH) - This is where you gain fame and help unlock the underworld in this game.
You get together with 8 other people and enter this tourney. Once you do you have to pass a quick NPC trial battle to make sure you can handle what is to come. Once you pass the trial, there are a series of ladder matches with different scenario's you must fight thru to get to the Hall of Hereos (the finale). These scenario's range from single 8vs8 battles, 3 team king of the hill type battles, capture the flag like battles, to 8vs8vs8vs8 free for alls.
Winning matches and even halls grants you lots of faction (to unlock things), fame: which builds up to grant you 'ranks', which can be displayed to others after you reach rank 3. Halls takes time and teamwork, so some groups will only roll with you after you are a certain rank.
If you win halls, you get something else also, the game diplays to the world that your group won and a few sig crests drop random to players. These things are worth quite a bit of money since they are needed for guilds to get a guild hall (yes we have our own guild hall).
To onlock the underworld, your server has to win Halls 3 times in a row. The underworld is a PvE area of the game that has PHAT loot and exp to be quested for.....
Guild vs Guild battles - Once you are able and pick a guild hall you can fight other guilds. These fights ARE PERMANENT, or at least for 6 months at a time or so hehe (which just had a ladder rest). What I am saying is: these battles are recorded and rank your guild. Random and Hall PvP if you lose you just start over, there is no record of how many times you have won/lost, no record displaying to the world if you suck or not heh... etc.
Every guild starts the game at rank 1000 and a clean 0 won 0 lost record. From then on every guild you beat or lost against moves up and down by what rank they are and how many wins/losses they have. This list is permanently displayed HERE.
GvG battles are set up like a battlefield. To win: you inflitrate the opposing guildhall and kill there NPC Guildleader. All the while you are battling for a flagstand that grants morale, trying not to get insta-killed by catapults, killing or being killed by opposing guildmembers and even fighting NPC guards.
Welp, this may have been more then you asked for heh. But I hope it helps ya understand the ins and outs of GuildWars .

Ive checked around and it seems that its not an expansion and that you can actually play just factions but you miss out on all the GW stuff. Im going to assume the 3rd chapter will be the same so would it be best to buy all of them or just get the exp?

At least they are finally on track and are pumping out the expansion like they should have 6+ months ago
As far as what to get, def get what you can afford. Would actually start with GW, that way by the time you get thru all the content you will be craving more (just in time for expansion ).
